In this post I’ll explain how I rate books. I feel like a lot of people think a 3-star rating is bad, but to me it’s not bad at all. Luckily, I don’t read a lot of books that were really awful, so I don’t use 1 and 2-star ratings a lot. But I do use 3-star ratings quite often, since I read a lot of books that are good but not mind-blowing. You will be able to find this post under the tab ‘about’ as well.
I give 1-star and 2-star ratings to books I didn’t enjoy.
★ | 1 star – garbage
I did not like this book at all. Reading this book was a waste of time. I probably finished it because it’s a review copy and I have to review it. If I didn’t have to review this book I wouldn’t have finished it.
★★ | 2 stars – meh
This book isn’t good. It had some interesting elements that I liked but overall I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would.
From here on – a 3-star rating – I would consider a book good.
★★★ | 3 stars – good
A good book I enjoyed reading. There are some things the author needs to work on, but overall I liked this book. Depending on what I didn’t like, I would or would not recommend the book
★★★★ | 4 stars – great
Really loved this book. It was great read and I would read it again. I’ll recommend this book.
★★★★★ | 5 stars – amazing
Amazing. Chef’s kiss. This book had an impact on me and I urge you to read it. This book was such an easy read that really got to me. I loved everything about it and can’t stop thinking about it.
Sometimes I do feel like a whole number does not concur with my feelings on the book. For example, I often feel like a 3-star rating is too low but a 4-star rating too high. I will give the books 3,5 stars because it’s just a bit better than a 3-star book.
