WWW Wednesday | June 14th

Here I am, back with another WWW Wednesday. Read the full post to see what I’m reading, and don’t hesitate to participate! I’m back! I’m excited to start blogging and reading more.

This format was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

To participate, you just have to answer these questions:

  • What are you currently reading?
  • What did you recently finish reading?
  • What do you think youโ€™ll read next?

What are you currently reading

I am still reading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. I have about 4 hours left of this book and I kind of don’t want it to end?

Synopsis

Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding generalโ€”also known as her tough-as-talons motherโ€”has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders.

But when youโ€™re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away…because dragons donโ€™t bond to โ€œfragileโ€ humans. They incinerate them.

With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her motherโ€™s daughterโ€”like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

Sheโ€™ll need every edge her wits can give her just to see the next sunrise.

Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret.

What did you recently finish reading

… Nothing ๐Ÿ˜€

I’ll be reading North Queen (Crowns #1) by Nicola Tyche. It is an arc so I’m very curious to see if it’s as promising as the synopsis makes it out to be. I’ll also be listening to the Bridgerton series, starting off with The Duke and I (Bridgertons #1) by Julia Quinn.

Synopsis

The Return of a Lost Heir โ€ฆ
The kingdom of Mercia has been at war with the Shadow King and his dark army for ten years. To escape the seerโ€™s vision of her capture, Merciaโ€™s heir to the throne, Princess Norah Andell, is secreted away by her father to keep her safe. But when he dies in battle, so too dies the knowledge of where sheโ€™s hidden. Sheโ€™s lost to the worldโ€”until three years later, when sheโ€™s found with no memory of who she is or the kingdom that now rests on her shoulders.

A Conflicted Duty โ€ฆ
Loyal and fearless commander of the Mercian army, Alexander Rhemus, has protected the realm against the threat of the Shadow King, awaiting Norahโ€™s return. Not only does she hold the fate of the kingdom, but also his heart. However, when sheโ€™s found, he discovers she has no memory of him, or what was once between them. With war still looming, Norah is expected to wed and secure an allianceโ€”one Mercia desperately needs to stand against the Shadow King. Now, with Merciaโ€™s future at stake, Alexander finds himself torn between his duty and his heart.

A Twisted Fate โ€ฆ
Norah is thrust into a world she doesnโ€™t know, in a role sheโ€™s unprepared for, to save a kingdom she doesnโ€™t remember. Under the hardship of winter and a dark enemy against them, Mercia is on the verge of breaking. As things start to unravel, the Shadow King draws Norah down a path of twisted fateโ€”and it could cost her everything.

Synopsis

In the ballrooms and drawing rooms of Regency London, rules abound. From their earliest days, children of aristocrats learn how to address an earl and curtsey before a princeโ€”while other dictates of the ton are unspoken yet universally understood. A proper duke should be imperious and aloof. A young, marriageable lady should be amiableโ€ฆ but not too amiable.

Daphne Bridgerton has always failed at the latter. The fourth of eight siblings in her close-knit family, she has formed friendships with the most eligible young men in London. Everyone likes Daphne for her kindness and wit. But no one truly desires her. She is simply too deuced honest for that, too unwilling to play the romantic games that captivate gentlemen.

Amiability is not a characteristic shared by Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings. Recently returned to England from abroad, he intends to shun both marriage and societyโ€”just as his callous father shunned Simon throughout his painful childhood. Yet an encounter with his best friendโ€™s sister offers another option. If Daphne agrees to a fake courtship, Simon can deter the mamas who parade their daughters before him. Daphne, meanwhile, will see her prospects and her reputation soar.

The plan works like a charmโ€”at first. But amid the glittering, gossipy, cut-throat world of Londonโ€™s elite, there is only one certainty: love ignores every rule…
