I use trigger warnings in my reviews. I’ll explain below what that means and how I use them.
WHAT ARE THEY
A trigger warning is a statement cautioning that some content (in my case the content is a book) may be disturbing or upsetting.
WHY USE THEM
By using trigger warnings (tw) you can warn those who have experienced trauma. Trigger warnings can help people avoid fight-or-flight modes that occur when they are exposed to words or imagery that remind them of the trauma. (via WFU)
HOW DO I USE THEM
I will post the trigger warnings at the bottom of my review together with other information about the book.
HOW DO I KNOW WHICH TW TO USE
I take notes while reading and pay attention to any details that might be triggering for some people. I also use the site www.booktriggerwarnings.com. This site is great to check if you have forgotten any warnings.
