Kaitlyn Davis shows off her writing skills in her magical novel ‘The Raven and the Dove’

The Raven and the Dove by Kaitlyn Davis ★★★★★

“Love is when you find a piece of yourself in someone else, a piece you never knew was missing, but without which you’d be broken. You feel whole, and complete, and accepted for exactly who you are. You can be your true self, because around this person, for the first time you have no desire to pretend to be anyone else.”

I received this e-book from Netgalley. This does not affect my review or opinion. All thoughts are my own and I’m being 100 percent honest. Thank you to Netgalley and Kaitlyn Davis for providing me this e-book for reviewing purposes.

I am absolutely in love with this book. I loved the characters, the world the story was set in, the plot… just everything was lovely. Davis has created such a magical world in which I could lose myself. The Raven and the Dove was a wonderful and easy read.

A princess longing to be free…

On the dawn of her courtship trials, Princess Lyana Aethionus knows she should be focused on winning her perfect mate, yet her thoughts wander to the open sky waiting at the edge of her floating kingdom. One final adventure calls. Upon fleeing the palace, the last thing she expects to find is a raven prince locked in a death match with a dragon.

A bastard aching to belong…

Reviled son of a dead king, Rafe would do anything for his beloved half-brother, Prince Lysander Taetanus, including posing as him in the upcoming courtship trials. When a dragon interrupts their secret exchange, he orders his studious sibling to run. After suffering a fatal blow, Rafe is saved by a beautiful dove who possesses forbidden magic, just like him.

Fate brought them together, now destiny will tear them apart…

Unknown to the world above, on the foggy sea ten thousand feet below, a young king fights a forgotten war. He believes Lyana is the queen prophesied to save the world, and with the help of his favored spy, hidden deep in the highest ranks of the dove royal house, he will stop at nothing to have her.

Let me start with the cover because it is absolutely gorgeous. I saw The Raven and the Dove a couple of months ago when I was scrolling through Goodreads and fell in love. I immediately added it to my TBR. When I saw the book on Netgalley I just lost it. I wanted it so bad and my request eventually got approved. A pretty cover is so important and The Raven and The Dove has one of the prettiest covers I have ever seen. I just knew the book was going to be good.

From page one I got sucked into this magical world. This book was such an easy read, I just flew through the pages. I even found myself dreaming about this story. The plot was very interesting and well constructed. I feel like there was a plot within the plot. Like there’s a bigger picture and I really liked that. The Raven and the Dove was a pleasant but intense read and has dragons in it!!! Dragons! The author succeeds in keeping the reader’s attention with just the right amount of plot twists.

The Raven and the Dove is written in four point of views but it wasn’t confusing at all. All the characters are very different so when Davis changes from point of view, you immediately know who you’re reading about. The four personas were so different from each other but all very engrossing. I didn’t have a favorite character to follow which was very refreshing. I really liked all of these personas Davis created and wanted to read about all of them and know all of their thoughts.

The world-building was as magical as expected when seeing the cover. This world The Raven and the Dove is set in is so different from the world we live in. The way Davis describes all these places, you can really picture them in your mind. I really liked the world and can’t wait to see more of it in the second book.

Would I recommend this book? Yes, absolutely yes. I loved everything about The Raven and the Dove. This was an easy read, with a lot of interesting elements in it. I can’t wait for the second book in this series.
