5 Must-Read Books to Transition Into Fall

As the weather starts to cool and the days get shorter, there’s nothing better than curling up with a book that captures that perfect balance between summer warmth and autumn coziness. Whether you’re looking for a magical escape, a heartwarming romance, or an atmospheric read to set the tone for the season, these five books will help you ease into fall with all the right vibes.

1. A Dark and Drowning Tide by Allison Saft
This ARC has already grabbed my attention, and it’s perfect for those early fall nights. Set in a world drenched in mystery and magic, it follows a young woman who must uncover the secrets lurking in her small coastal town. The eerie, atmospheric vibes are perfect for that in-between moment when summer’s ending, but the full chill of autumn hasn’t quite arrived. Keep an eye out for my full review soon! This book releases on September 17th.

2. An Enchantment of Ravens by Margaret Rogerson
This YA fantasy is the ultimate transition read. It features fae, art, and magic, all set against a vibrant seasonal backdrop that moves between warmth and autumnal beauty. Rogerson’s storytelling is whimsical yet grounded, and the romance between human artist Isobel and the immortal fae prince Rook will warm your heart while making you long for those crisp, fall days.

3. Beach Read by Emily Henry
For those who aren’t ready to fully let go of summer, this romance will give you one last taste of warm beach days, but with the emotional depth and character growth that feels just right for fall. January and Gus, two writers with very different styles, challenge each other to step outside their comfort zones and, of course, fall in love. The balance of humor and heart makes this a perfect book to cozy up with.

4. The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
This one is a beautiful, bittersweet book that feels like it was made for this time of year. Addie LaRue makes a deal with the devil, only to find herself cursed to be forgotten by everyone she meets. Spanning centuries, it’s a deeply atmospheric read with elements of history, romance, and magic, perfect for ushering in the darker, cooler months. Schwab’s writing will wrap you in its spell as you watch the leaves begin to fall.

5. The Secret History by Donna Tartt
If you’re in the mood for something dark and intellectual to match the “back-to-school” season, this classic is a must-read. With its academic setting and slow-building tension, The Secret History is the ultimate campus novel, exploring obsession, privilege, and the consequences of trying to live outside the rules. It’s an engrossing, thought-provoking read, perfect for when you’re craving something with a bit more edge as fall begins.

These books will give you a warm, cozy start to the season, but also introduce just a touch of fall’s mystery and introspection. Whether you’re looking for magic, romance, or something a little darker, this list has you covered as you transition from summer into autumn! Keep an eye out for my full review of A Dark and Drowning Tide coming soon!

Wishing you cozy reads and autumn magic.

Same! I love it when there’s sun but a little breeze, not too hot and not too cold
