Yesterday Samantha Shannon came to Belgium to do a signing. She was in the Fnac Toison d’Or from 6pm till 7pm. Belgium was the last stop in her French tour.
I was kind of nervous to be meeting her because it was my first time meeting an author who is that famous. The moment I saw her, all my nerves immediately went away. She was so kind to everyone en took the time to talk to her fans. You could really see she enjoys going on tour and meeting fans from all over the world.
The signing took place in the Fnac Toison D’or a bookshop in Ixelles. The place was really easy to find, though I don’t quite understand why they held the signing there and why not in the center of Brussels. This would’ve been a smarter move I think .
The Cover
I have yet to read The Priory of the Orange Tree but I’m really excited to start. One of the reasons why I picked up this book is because of the cover. I mean, have you seen it? We talked about how pretty the cover is and Samantha was really pleased with it. She said she was excited for this cover because most fantasy book covers are really plain and simple like The Bone Season. Another reason I really wanted to read the novel is because it’s a queer book. Samantha Shannon recently tweeted about it. She said The Priory of the Orange Tree is about a ‘knife-wielding lesbian not realising for 400 pages that she’s in love with a sad bisexual queen’ and ‘a salty gay alchemist trying to complete the love of his life’s academic work’.
I am planning on reading The Priory of the Orange Tree very soon and will be reviewing as well. The book has gotten a lot of good reviews on Goodreads.
This beauty is 800 pages long and is a standalone, but Samantha said she might write another book on the world itself because it has more tales to tell.
A world divided.
A queendom without an heir.
An ancient enemy awakens.
The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction—but assassins are getting closer to her door.
Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic.
Across the dark sea, Tané has trained all her life to be a dragonrider, but is forced to make a choice that could see her life unravel.
Meanwhile, the divided East and West refuse to parley, and forces of chaos are rising from their sleep.
Other works by Samantha Shannon are
