Chocolate – A dark book that you loved.

So many books to choose from, but I’m going to go with The Obsidian Tower by Melissa Caruso. I absolutely loved this book. It is so well written and has a unique plot. I fell in love with all the characters in this dark fantasy novel. You can read my review on it here.

The mage-marked granddaughter of a ruler of Vaskandar, Ryx was destined for power and prestige at the top of Vaskandran society. But her magic is broken; all she can do is uncontrollably drain the life from everything she touches, and Vaskandar has no place for a mage with unusable powers.

Vanilla – Favourite light read. 

This is a hard one because I don’t really read many light books. I should read more contemporary ya books because I actually really like the genre. I think I’m going to pick By Your Side by Kasie West. It is a light and fluffy contemporary book. I read it a couple of years ago when I was much younger. I might reread it in the future, who knows.

When Autumn Collins finds herself accidentally locked in the library for an entire weekend, she doesn’t think things could get any worse. But that’s before she realizes that Dax Miller is locked in with her.

Autumn doesn’t know much about Dax except that he’s trouble. Between the rumors about the fight he was in (and that brief stint in juvie that followed it) and his reputation as a loner, he’s not exactly the ideal person to be stuck with. Still, she just keeps reminding herself that it is only a matter of time before Jeff, her almost-boyfriend, realizes he left her in the library and comes to rescue her.

Only he doesn’t come. No one does.

Instead it becomes clear that Autumn is going to have to spend the next couple of days living off vending-machine food and making conversation with a boy who clearly wants nothing to do with her. Except there is more to Dax than meets the eye.

As he and Autumn at first grudgingly, and then not so grudgingly, open up to each other, Autumn is struck by their surprising connection. But can their feelings for each other survive once the weekend is over and Autumn’s old life, and old love interest, threaten to pull her from Dax’s side?

Red Velvet – A book that gave you mixed emotions.

I am going to say A Song Below Water by Bethany C. Morrow. The reason I chose this book is because I would’ve given it 4-5 stars if it had been written as a contemporary novel. The fantasy aspect of this book was quite lacking therefore I couldn’t give it a 5 star review because it is supposed to be a fantasy book. You can read my review on it here.

Tavia is already at odds with the world, forced to keep her siren identity under wraps in a society that wants to keep her kind under lock and key. Never mind she’s also stuck in Portland, Oregon, a city with only a handful of black folk and even fewer of those with magical powers. At least she has her bestie Effie by her side as they tackle high school drama, family secrets, and unrequited crushes.

But everything changes in the aftermath of a siren murder trial that rocks the nation; the girls’ favorite Internet fashion icon reveals she’s also a siren, and the news rips through their community. Tensions escalate when Effie starts being haunted by demons from her past, and Tavia accidentally lets out her magical voice during a police stop. No secret seems safe anymore—soon Portland won’t be either.

Cheesecake – A book that you’d recommend to everyone.

Hmmmmmmmmmm, I have so many books I really like. Just for the sake of staying with the theme of recommending standalones I would say We Were Liars by E. Lockhart. This is such a mind blowing read. I enjoyed reading it but it also made me cry. That’s how much it impacted me.

Coffee – A book that you started but never finished.

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. Oops. I don’t know I just found it boring. Maybe because I was too young to really enjoy it. I might try again but I just didn’t like it.

It is 1939. In Nazi Germany, the country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier – and will become busier still.

By her brother’s graveside, Liesel’s life is changed forever when she picks up a single object, abandoned in the snow. It isThe Gravedigger’s Handbook, and this is her first act of book thievery. Carrot – A book with great writing.

For this category, I’m going to choose The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw. I absolutely love Shea Ernshaw’s writing. I really love how she gave me this eerie kind of feeling while reading The Wicked Deep. Her world-building was excellent and her writing style was very pleasant to read.
