So I don’t know if it’s just me, but I’m so in the mood to read Christmas books. I have been for over a week now! I’m going to be honest, I don’t have any experience with Christmas novels. When I want to get into the Christmas spirit I usually watch movies, but I wanted to switch things up this year.
In my search for cute romance novels happening during the holiday period I realized I’ve never heard of any books about Christmas that have a main character of color in them. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Christmas movie that wasn’t about a white girl?
So here we are, I did some digging and found some fun Christmas novels featuring characters of color! Most of them are short stories, because I couldn’t find a lot of lengthy Christmas books. To add the book to your Goodreads simply click on the image! I’ll also leave links to buy the books on Wordery and Blackwells if they have the book there, if not I’ll leave the link to Amazon.
Someday at Christmas by Lizzie Byron
Synopsis
Shell Smith is the most popular make-up artist on the ART counter at Duke & Sons, a beautiful but old-fashioned department store in her hometown. But whilst Shell’s love life is looking up, now that she’s dating long-time crush Nick, and business is booming in the beauty department, the rest of the store is noticeably quiet . . .
The owner’s grandson Callum has come up with some creative ways to keep Duke & Sons afloat this Christmas, including allowing a production company to secretly film a romcom after hours. When Callum recruits her to help out, Shell finds there is more to Mr Duke Jr. than sharp suits and a business-like demeanour.
With a store to save and her own romance with Nick going off-script, Christmas just got complicated for Shell. But this is the most wonderful time of the year, so there must be a happy ending awaiting… Right?

EXTRA: a book with a love interest of color and m/m romance
Handmade Holidays by ‘Nathan Burgoine
!!! The MC isn’t a person of color in this one, the love interest is.
Synopsis
At nineteen, Nick is alone for the holidays and facing reality: this is how it will be from now on. Refusing to give up completely, Nick buys a Christmas tree, and then realizes he has no ornaments. A bare tree and an empty apartment aren’t a great start, but a visit from his friend Haruto is just the ticket to get him through this first, worst, Christmas. A box of candy canes and a hastily folded paper crane might not be the best ornaments, but it’s a place to start.
A year later, Nick has realized he’s not the only one with nowhere to go, and he hosts his first “Christmas for the Misfit Toys.” Haruto brings Nick an ornament for Nick’s tree, and a tradition—and a new family—is born.
As years go by, Nick, Haruto, and their friends face love, betrayal, life, and death. Every ornament on Nick’s tree is another year, another story, and another chance at the one thing Nick has wanted since the start: someone who’d share more than the holidays with him.
Of course, Nick might have already missed his shot at the one, and it might be too late.
Still, after fifteen Christmases, Nick is ready to risk it all for the best present yet.
