Library book haul

I went to my local library yesterday and picked out some books. I really was in a science fiction mood, so the majority of books I chose are science fiction. My library now offers their service for free to people younger than 26. I was very happy to hear that because I hadn’t renewed my subscription yet, and I’m only 21 so that means I have a few more years to enjoy free books!

Jinxed (Jinxed #1) by Amy McCullough

I’ve been meaning to read this book for a couple of months now. I’m hoping I’ll like it, but I’m usually not a fan of books who have a main character that’s a lot younger than me. I’m not that into middle grade books, and I’m even growing out of young adult books. Hopefully I’ll like it!

Synopsis
Lacey Chu has big dreams of becoming a companioneer for MONCHA, the largest tech firm in North America and the company behind the  “baku” – a customisable smart pet that functions as a phone but makes the perfect companion too. When Lacey finds out she hasn’t been accepted into Profectus – the elite academy for cutting edge tech – it seems her dreams are over. Worst of all, rather than getting to choose one of the advanced bakus, she’s stuck with a rubbish insect one.

Then, one night, Lacey comes across the remains of an advanced baku. Once it might’ve been in the shape of a cat but it’s now mangled and broken, no sign of electronic life behind its eyes. Days of work later and the baku opens its eyes. Lacey calls him Jinx – and Jinx opens up a world for her that she never even knew existed, including entry to the hallowed halls of Profecus. Slowly but surely, Jinx becomes more than just a baku to Lacey – he becomes her perfect companion. But what is Jinx, really? His abilities far surpass anything written into his code or built into his motherboard. He seems to be more than just a robotic pet. He seems … real.

Supernova (Light Years #2) by Kass Morgan

I read the first book in the series a year or two ago and really wanted to read the sequel. It’s quite short, only like 250 pages so I’ll finish it soon I think.

Synopsis (possible spoilers for the first book Light Years)
With a galaxy on the brink of war and loyalties divided, the friendship of four Quatra Fleet cadets will be tested as their greatest enemy closes in.

Firstlife (Everlife #1) by Gena Showalter

The synopsis looked cool. I have heard of Gena Showalter before and heard good things about her latest novels. I’m hoping this one is good as well.

25785357

Synopsis
I’ve been told history is written by survivors. But I know that isn’t always true. My name is Tenley Lockwood, and very soon, I’ll be dead. This is my story—but the end is only the beginning.

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. She’s earned her rep as the craziest of crazies, but that doesn’t stop the torture. Ten can leave, but only if she allows her parents to choose where she’ll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the boy she’s falling for and the realm she wants to support. Who will she choose? Can she stay alive long enough to make a decision?

The Final Six (The Final Six #1) by Alexandra Monir

This book has been on my Goodreads ‘want to read’ list for a while. So when I came across the book in my library I had to take it with me.

The Final Six

Synopsis
When Leo, an Italian championship swimmer, and Naomi, a science genius from California, are two of the twenty-four teens drafted into the International Space Training Camp, their lives are forever altered. After erratic climate change has made Earth a dangerous place to live, the fate of the population rests on the shoulders of the final six who will be scouting a new planet. Intense training, global scrutiny, and cutthroat opponents are only a few of the hurdles the contestants must endure in this competition.

For Leo, the prospect of traveling to Europa—Jupiter’s moon—to help resettle humankind is just the sense of purpose he’s been yearning for since losing his entire family in the flooding of Rome. Naomi, after learning of a similar space mission that mysteriously failed, suspects the ISTC isn’t being up front with them about what’s at risk.

As the race to the final six advances, the tests get more challenging—even deadly. With pressure mounting, Naomi finds an unexpected friend in Leo, and the two grow closer with each mind-boggling experience they encounter. But it’s only when the finalists become fewer and their destinies grow nearer that the two can fathom the full weight of everything at stake: the world, the stars, and their lives.

The Assassin’s Blade (Throne of Glass #0.1 – 0.5) by Sarah J. Maas

I’m currently listening to the audiobook of Throne of Glass on Storytel. I don’t really like the narrator so I wanted to pick up the paperbacks, but they only had this book, book 5 and book 7 lol. I decided to take this one with me and read it after I have finished Throne of Glass. (I have read book 1 and 2 before, but can’t remember everything)
