review | storytel updates september 2022

We’re back at it again! My favourite audiobook subscription has updated its app, and I obviously had to review it and sum up for you guys what changed and what’s new.

As most of you know, I’ve had a Storytel subscription for a while now. For those who don’t know what it is, Storytel it is an app where you can listen to more than 350,000 audiobooks. I started listening to audiobooks back in 2020 during lockdown and have loved the concept ever since. I find audiobooks to be very relaxing and convenient. Audiobooks are great to listen to before going to sleep, but also when taking a shower and taking the train to work. Audiobooks also really help me ‘read’ when I’m having a reading slump.

It’s been a while since I reviewed the app, I think my last review is from June 2021 which is over a year ago. Recently some updates have been made and Storytel has a new look. That’s why I’m taking another look at the app today and giving my opinion about the new features.

This post isn’t sponsored, but I do get to use their service for free.

New features

Reviews
In your profile, you can see if you left a review on a book. It shows you how many stars you gave it, what you wrote in your review, and which emotion(s) you attributed to the book.

More languages
In Belgium, you could find audiobooks and e-books in Dutch, French, and English since the last time they did a major update. Now Storytel has added even more languages such as Spanish an

Layout interface
I said it in my last review, but once again the app layout has changed, and it is even better than before. I thought the app was already well-built and everything was easy to find, but the layout is even more modern looking.

Time left in chapter
You could already see how many hours, minutes, and seconds remain in your audiobook. But now you even see how much time is left in the chapter you’re listening to.

Following an author
Now when you’re following an author, let’s say R.F. Kuang, you get a message if she has a new book available on the app. I recently got a notification saying Babel got added to the app.

What I’m still missing

Percentages
I still can’t seem to find the percentage I have read. I can see how many hours are left in my book, but can’t see how much that is in percentages. This feature would come in handy for my Goodreads updates.

Filtering
I would like to see a feature where you can filter books based on book length. There is a category called short novels, but there are books of 10+ hours in there, so that isn’t really ideal when you’re looking for something that’s only 4 hours long.

Conclusion

Storytel keeps improving its app and service, which is amazing. I use it daily and can’t live without it. They also keep adding books on a daily basis and I can find a lot of popular releases on the release day!

Storytel is also a great way for me to find new authors and new books.

If you want to give the service a try, you can now listen for free for 30 days instead of 14 days. You can do that via this link.
